With a few from our team already involved with Whisky Wisemen, we were proud to be their title sponsor and official marketing partner for their second annual charity golf tournament in July. Holding both these roles, we personally joined in on the fun, while managing on-site activations, and documenting the event live to create follow-up content.
Who are the Whisky Wisemen?
If you’re not familiar with Whisky Wisemen, they’re a non-profit organization founded in Vancouver with chapters in Calgary, Toronto, Miami, and the Cayman Islands, comprised of men and women. They bring together a love of whisky and altruism, meeting once a month to connect with each other and see how they can benefit the lives of their members and the people around them. Over the last five years, they’ve raised over $67,000 for causes such as Working Gear, Feed Our Future, Creative Kids Collective, Power To Be, Camp Ooch, Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, and more.

We title ourselves as a digital marketing and content production agency. But, with most of our outward finished products being displayed online, it can be easy to overlook how much we do in real life. Every video we create for a client or event we cover, the personal connection with the clients, staff, and attendees is the soul behind the digital content we produce.
In this case, as title sponsor, we got to be in front of and behind the scenes. Four from our team competed in the golf tournament, with the rest shooting video and photo, managing activations, providing support, and having a good time.
Each sponsor had their own unique themed activation for each hole. Some favourites were cocktails from Botanist Gin for a whisky alternative, and Richmond Steel offering an air cannon, which let golfers shoot the ball instead of swing, in exchange for a donation.
Our team held down hole #1 with our friends from Nude Vodka Soda, keeping everyone hydrated before starting their game. We created signage, banners, and the backdrop for attendees to get group photos.
Social Content Marketing
We had two content marketing pillars that day: Create social content live and visual content in post-production. The goal: To grow awareness of the event and attract potential sponsors for next year. We managed an Instagram Story takeover of the Whisky Wisemen account, posting live photos, videos, boomerangs, graphics, animations, and more to their 63,000+ Instagram followers.
We took photos, videos, drone footage, and fixed GoPros to golf carts. The results were hundreds of fun candid and posed shots of attendees and sponsors. We also produced two minute-long videos, each tailored for specific audiences. One was an event recap to thank the attendees and be used to promote next year’s tournament. The other was to thank the sponsors and be used to attract more sponsors next year.
Ready to make 2019 even bigger and better
Since this was only the second annual tournament, Whisky Wisemen needed to capture as much footage as they could to ensure next year will be bigger and better. With the on-site activations, live social media, and post-production all executed as planned, the Wisemen have all the content needed to market and promote in 2019. We’re all looking forward to next year to see how much fun we can have and how much more we can raise for the great causes Whisky Wisemen supports.
